About Us

The Deborah Laxton School of Dance prides itself on the friendliness of the pupils that attend and we enjoy getting to know every single child throughout the school.  We focus on quality training and personal attention. As a school we do not boast about the students achievements and where they are now but we do concentrate on the children enjoying their dance classes and we pride ourselves on the whole learning experience, exercise and enjoyment of the art, there are also plenty of classes, exams and opportunities for those who want to seek a career out of dance and we also give plenty of support and encouragement to pupils who have furthered their career with us.  All the classes are well structured and aim to improve and develop such skills as co-ordination, poise, rhythm and self-confidence.

The school has an outstanding 100% exam pass rate with the Royal Academy of Dancing.

School shows are held every couple of years at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil.  The children are also given opportunities to appear in local pantomime at the Octagon Theatre and to audition for other shows and pantomimes in the area. Children also have the chance to enter into dance competitions/festivals in the area and the south west.

Classes are taught in both Somerset and Dorset in the following towns –
Yeovil, Ilchester, South Petherton, Barrington, Ilminster, Milborne Port and Wincanton.

The Deborah Laxton School of Dance was founded in 1990 in Yeovil.  The school started completely from scratch without any children and has built up over the years to what it is today.

Deborah had attended ballet classes from the age of 3 in her home town of Exeter and successfully passed all her R.A.D. Examinations with the Royal Academy of Dancing. Deborah successfully completed the 3 year teacher training course with the Royal Academy of Dancing, London and became a fully qualified and registered dance teacher with the R.A.D. She has taught in numerous private schools in the area, including Sherborne Preparatory School and St Antonys-Leweston and has choreographed many shows involving around  300 children at the local theatre as well as appearing in pantomimes and shows herself.  Deborah also holds a diploma in catwalk modelling and has run her own modelling school in Yeovil as well as a Performing Arts School and is also a member of the I.D.T.A.

The Dance School does not believe in taking endless children into the school, resulting in big class sizes, as it believes you cannot possibly teach and give careful tuition to each child if you have large numbers.  The teachers in the school like to be able to give time and personal attention to each child in each class where and when it is needed.
